A Trustworthy, Modular Approach to Data Sharing
EDT operates on a simple yet powerful principle: data can only be shared if it is governed by trust.
Here’s how the platform works
Governance First
All participants agree to the principles in the EDT Charter of Trust, which include transparency, accountability, ethical conduct, and data custodianship.
Data contributors maintain control over how their data is accessed, shared, or monetized.
Permissioned Access
Users (utilities, governments, researchers, tech innovators) request access to specific datasets.
Access is granted based on data licensing, privacy requirements, and intended use.
Some datasets are open; others require approvals or anonymization.
Interoperability, Not Centralization
EDT enables data connections, not just uploads. We connect to source systems rather than hosting massive datasets.
Contributors can share data via secure, cloud-based linkages.
Prototype-Driven Development
A demonstration prototype is currently in development to model how data flows in and out of the trust.
Initial focus: “How do we get data in and out—securely, ethically, and effectively?”
Legal Frameworks in Progress
Legal agreements are being developed in collaboration with universities, utilities, and industry partners.
Rules for access, aggregation, anonymization, and monetization are tailored to stakeholder type (e.g., research vs. commercial use).
